Description
Ina Garten’s Caramelized Onion Dip is a rich, flavorful dip made with slowly caramelized onions, cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. The dip is seasoned with a touch of salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, creating a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. This dip is versatile and pairs wonderfully with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.
Ingredients
- Yellow onions: 2 large, thinly sliced
- Unsalted butter: 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon, plus more to taste
- Black pepper: 1/4 teaspoon, freshly ground
- Cream cheese: 4 ounces, softened
- Sour cream: 1/2 cup
- Mayonnaise: 1/2 cup
- Worcestershire sauce: 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder: 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are deeply golden brown and caramelized, about 20-30 minutes. Reduce heat if the onions brown too quickly.
- Cool the onions: Remove the caramelized onions from the heat and let them cool to room temperature.
- Blend the base: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Mix in the onions: Once cooled, fold the caramelized onions into the cream cheese mixture until well incorporated.
- Chill the dip: Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Adjust seasoning: Taste the dip and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if necessary.
- Serve and enjoy: Serve chilled or at room temperature with your choice of dippables.
